The Complexity of Indian Compliance
Indian enterprises operate in a multi-layered regulatory environment. Corporate direct taxes, GST returns, labour laws, and Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) filings all demand constant attention. Missing these milestones leads to severe interest charges and personal director liabilities.
The Checklist
1. Direct & Indirect Taxes
- TDS Deposits: Monthly by the 7th.
- TDS Returns: Quarterly within 30 days of quarter end.
- GSTR-1 & GSTR-3B: Monthly by the 11th and 20th respectively.
- Advance Tax Payments: Quarterly (June 15, Sep 15, Dec 15, Mar 15).
2. Labour Laws
- Provident Fund (PF) deposits: Monthly by the 15th.
- ESIC payments: Monthly by the 15th.
- Professional Tax deposits: Varies by state; usually monthly.
3. MCA Corporate Secretarial
- Board Meetings: Minimum of 4 meetings per year; gap not exceeding 120 days.
- Annual General Meeting (AGM): Within 6 months of financial year end.
- Form AOC-4 (Financial Statements): File within 30 days of AGM.
- Form MGT-7 (Annual Return): File within 60 days of AGM.
